Education For a Lifetime trainings are designed to teach educators and youth workers vital skills for identifying and managing mental health crises and the effects of trauma in adolescents.
Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA)
This training is primarily designed for adults who interact regularly with youth between the ages of 12-18 who are experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge, or are in crisis. The Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training…
- Can be presented for both individuals and organizations
- Introduces common mental health challenges for youth and reviews typical adolescent development
- Teaches a five-step action plan for helping young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations
- Covers topics like substance use, anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders
- Adapts to different needs and schedules, and can be presented in a 6.5 hour in-person training, or in a 4.5 hour asynchronous in-person or online training combined with two hours of personal online training
- Includes a YMHFA certification for those who pass the course (eligible for 6.5 hours of continuing education units)

- Introduces strategies like identification and assessment, reducing risk and exposure, and nurturing resiliency and skill-building
- Introduces common mental health challenges for youth and reviews typical adolescent development
- Increases knowledge of trauma
- Provides ways to work with children, families, and communities to reduce the impact of trauma
- Teaches attendees how to become trauma-informed care community members
- Is a two-hour in-person training
