Have you ever noticed how easy it is to lose track of time on your phone? You open an app to check one thing and suddenly an hour has gone by. It can feel random, but it is really how the apps work. They notice what grabs your attention and then show you more of it.
Our brains naturally look for things that make us feel good. Hanging out with friends, listening to music, playing with your dog, finishing a project, or eating something you love all give little bursts of dopamine, that spark that makes us want to keep doing something.
Social media can create that same kind of spark. Every new post or notification gives a quick hit of excitement. Sometimes that keeps us scrolling longer than we planned. When one app starts to feel slow we switch to another. TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube. It can become a loop that moves faster than the rest of life.
After a while the quieter parts of life can feel different. Going for a walk, drawing, reading, or just sitting with your thoughts does not give the same instant hit as a video or a notification. That can make the slower moments feel unusual or harder to notice.
It is interesting to pay attention to how scrolling actually makes you feel. Some moments are exciting. Others are tiring. And sometimes noticing that is all it takes to understand how we move between the fast world on screens and the slower world around us.
