Hiking in Colorado!

Growing up in Colorado can be an incredible adventure. We have access to some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country, yet many of us have not to explored them. While some folks just don’t like the outdoors, others might be unable to access it.

Often, people who live in cities have limited exposure to outdoor spaces. Being outside can cost a lot of money (e.g., transportation to remote locations, the cost of nature-specific gear, etc.), and requires a unique skillset. This can be intimidating as a newcomer to the outback.

So why care? Research shows that spending time outside offers our young people a wealth of benefits that go beyond the physical, including emotional well-being and cognitive development.

🌿 Emotional Well-Being and Stress Relief

Urban environments can be stressful. One study shows that spending 20 minutes park can significantly reduce stress and anxiety, and boost happiness, regardless of physical activity. Time

Additionally, outdoor activities can help regulate mood and improve sleep quality, contributing to better overall mental health.

🧠 Cognitive Growth and Academic Performance

Nature-based learning has been linked to improved cognitive functions such as attention, memory, and problem-solving skills. A study published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology found that children who engage in outdoor activities demonstrate improved attention and cognitive function compared to those who spend more time indoors.

Moreover, outdoor education programs have been shown to improve performance in subjects like science, math, and social studies by fostering critical thinking and creativity. Knbbs
