One of the best things we can do for our kids is give them affirmation – especially verbal words of encouragement and praise for the things that make them unique. This month I want to give you some ideas for a launching point to giving your kid 30 days of affirmation.
Each affirmation is inspired from the first letter in the day of the week. I encourage you to look for ways to try these and see your child’s face light up.
Sunday – Seek ways to say you are AWESOME!
Monday- Make every opportunity to point out the great things they do that day
Tuesday – Try to laugh with them.
Wednesday – Walk up to them and say “I love it when you ____________”
Thursday – Take them a note and a snack to school telling them you are thinking about them
Friday- Ask them to pick a funny movie
Saturday – say “I appreciate you” four times throughout the day
Sunday – Share how you felt when you found out that you were going to be a parent
Monday- Make them a card and put it on their pillow so they will see it when they go to sleep
Tuesday – Text them emoji’s telling them you appreciate them
Wednesday – Write an encouraging note on the bathroom mirror in dry-erase marker
Thursday – Talk with them about something they love or are interested in
Friday- Go out to eat their favorite food
Saturday – Sit across from them on the floor and get eye contact
Sunday- Sweets! Sweets always work to start a conversation with your kid. Tell them what candy you see associated with them.
Monday. Make a collage of notes/pictures/interesting things on the fridge that remind them they are important in your family.
Tuesday- When they are talking to you about something/anything, say “tell me more…”
Wednesday – Take a sharpy and write on their hand a word that describes them. I.E. “Brave, helpful, smart, whitty.”
Thursday – When they share a story with you say “tell me more”
Friday – Eat food again and ask them what their favorite thing about themselves is.
Saturday – Serve them breakfast in bed
Sunday- Say “You Rock!” and flash them the you rock sign or a goofy air guitar move.
Monday – Make their favorite meal for dinner and tell them you made it for them because you love them
Tuesday – Take a walk together and only talk about what they want to talk about
Wednesday – Take a walk and ask them to share their funniest memory together.
Thursday – talk with them again about their favorite movie.
Friday-Ask them to tell you funny jokes until you laugh.
Saturday – Sit on the edge of their bed before they go to sleep and share something special you saw in them that day.
Sunday – Slide a note under their bedroom door early in the morning with a note of encouragement.
Monday – Make a poster with you child that they can hang on their bedroom door.
